City, Town & County Face Covering Declarations to Slow the Spread of COVID-19

On June 18, 2020, Governor Ducey issued Executive Order 2020-40 authorizing cities, towns, and counties to adopt policies regarding wearing face covering in public to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Encouraging Residents and Visitors to Wear Face Coverings in Public (No Mandate)

  • Mohave County met on June 18, 2020 to discuss mandating face coverings. The Public Health Director did not recommend mandating face coverings, but encouraged citizens to wear face coverings in public places to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, individuals who are not symptomatic can still spread the disease so it is important to wear a mask to help protect fellow citizens.  The county may administratively reduce the seating capacity in the board room to allow for social distancing and offer face masks to the public, but not mandate usage when they visit a county facility.
  • Navajo County called on residents to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in a press release on June, 23, 2020. Residents and businesses were urged to follow guidelines and requirements from the Governor’s Executive Order 2020-40.  Including maintaining good personal hygiene, monitoring for illness, staying home if ill, maintaining physical distancing, wearing a mask in public when physical distancing is not available to protect themselves and the community.
  • Pinal County Board of Supervisors (BOS) met on June 19, 2020 to discuss possible options for slowing the spread of COVID-19 including face coverings in public. The item was withdrawn and was continued on June 24, 2020, the BOS voted on Resolution No 062420-LSE-02 to highly encourage wearing face coverings in public in unincorporated areas of the county, but did not mandate masks.
  • Yavapai County has recommended wearing a mask, but has not mandated the use of masks.
